Runner on training run in Rio Rancho NM

If you’re just starting to move — running, walking, whatever gets you out the door, or just starting to garden, or just starting to eat more intentionally, you’re in the right place. I found all three later in life. Everything here is for people still figuring it out.

Welcome to GrowStrides, a space where running, healthy living, and a love for nourishing food come together. I’m Terri, a runner, marathoner, gardener, and believer that our health thrives when we nurture it with care, balance, and intention.

From Late Starter to World Marathon Majors

Running wasn’t always part of my story. I found it later in life when I was 50, with the help of great coaches and thoughtful training, I fell in love with every mile. The discipline, the resilience, the joy of chasing goals that once felt out of reach.

Over the years, running has carried me across countless finish lines, including five Abbott World Marathon Majors (London, Berlin, Chicago, New York, Tokyo), one ultramarathon, half marathons, and local races that keep me grounded. Each race shaped not just my body, but my mindset. Growth happens one stride at a time.

Most recently, I completed my fifth major star at the London Marathon in 2025, ran the Revel Cottonwood Half, the Rio Grande Half here in New Mexico, and the California International Marathon (CIM). Boston 2026 and Sydney 2026 are on the calendar, and I’m still chasing miles with the same curiosity I had on day one.

Fueling Miles with Plants

A few years ago, I became curious about how nutrition could support my running and overall well-being. That curiosity led me toward a plant-forward lifestyle. Not strict labels or rigid rules, just fueling my body with more whole, plant-based foods while allowing flexibility.

What I discovered changed everything. Steadier energy. Lighter recovery days. A deeper connection to what I eat and where it comes from.

Not everyone eats the same way, and that’s the beauty of this community. Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, plant-based, or simply plant-curious, GrowStrides is a place to explore what works for you with balance and zero judgment.

From Soil to Stride

Beyond the miles and the meals, you’ll often find me in the garden. For nearly five years, we have been growing much of our food. What started as a few potted herbs has grown into raised beds and vertical planters filled with kale, beets, garlic, and greens that feed both my body and my soul.

Gardening taught me patience, gratitude, and the quiet power of consistency. The same lessons that show up in marathon training.

Why GrowStrides Exists

Through GrowStrides, I bring together these parts of my life: running, mindful eating, and gardening. This space is here to encourage you to move, grow, and thrive in your own way.

Whether you’re training for your first 5K, exploring plant-forward meals, or curious about starting a small backyard garden, I hope this space inspires you to take that next step.

Thank you for being here.

Still growing, one stride at a time.

💚
Terri
